I thought of going cold-turkey on Twitter and Instagram, but remembered how much value Twitter has given me, and how many photographers or artists on Instagram I still wanted to keep up with. I wanted to spend less total time, and to increase the quality of time I did spend, on social media.Īt the end of the day, I wanted to curate my content consumption and my attention the way I wanted to, rather than as a private social media company and its algorithms wanted to. Infinite scroll, algorithmically determined suggestions, notifications. Instagram: too many posts from accounts I felt lukewarm about, and too many acquaintances, which made make me feel like I’m stalking their lives.
